Historic Home Remodel: Making Upgrades while Preserving the Past

We absolutely love working on projects that involve historic homes or structures. There is just something special about preserving a piece of history while making it more suitable for present day living.

One of our favorite projects to date was an addition and remodel for a historic family farm on the Patuxent River. The same family has owned this farm since the 1600’s, and the current residents were looking to make some modifications to complement the existing home while not altering the historic sections.

The project involved making modifications to the existing additions that have been built over the years, while maintaining the integrity of the original 18th century structure.

On the first floor, we built a new one-and-a-half story great room addition to the west of the existing kitchen addition, and remodeled the kitchen.

We made some modifications to the second floor master bedroom addition to include a new dressing room, master bath, walk-in closets, a laundry room, and a hall bath.

Southern Maryland is rich with colonial-era history. Maintaining the historic charm of this area and the remaining historic homes and structures is a privilege and great responsibility. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with these clients.
